According to the Law on Environmental Protection and its accompanying documents, manufacturers and importers are obligated to fulfill the responsibility of recycling plastic products and packaging across six specified categories (referred to as EPR). The latest global trend in packaging revolves around the development of circular economic technology using recycled plastic. Consequently, when Vietnamese businesses aim to export to international markets, they must prioritize compliance with environmental and circular economy regulations. This is particularly crucial in European markets, where standards for eco-friendly packaging materials emphasize safety for consumers, recyclability, conservation of natural resources, and overall environmental friendliness. Notably, agricultural product packaging must align with sustainable development principles, ensuring easy recyclability. Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has recently introduced criteria for Vietnam eco-label for environmentally friendly plastic packaging. To receive an eco-label, a packaging product must meet one general standard and three separate standards related to raw materials; technical characteristics about pollution parameters; as well as collecting, recycling, processing, and disposing. In this context, Informa Markets Vietnam, in collaboration with the Center for Environmental Service and Event (under the Center for Natural Resources and Environment Communications – Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment), is organizing the seminar “Ecological Criteria for eco-friendly plastics: International Experience and Regulations in Vietnam”. This workshop is part of the international exhibition – Plastics & Rubber Vietnam 2024, which takes place at SECC, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City from March 13 – 15, 2024. The seminar aims to provide information about the provisions of the Law on Environmental Protection related to plastic products and packaging. Additionally, it will offer guidance on creating recognition documents for eco-labels on eco-friendly plastic and packaging. The conference provides a valuable opportunity for manufacturers, businesses, research organizations, and management agencies to share experiences and discuss issues related to plastic production and waste management in Vietnam. With a specific focus on the production and utilization of eco-friendly plastic packaging, as well as solutions for developing eco-labels, the seminar is poised to offer valuable insights for the plastics community in Vietnam.
